Teeth Whitening

Overview

Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, there are a number of ways to whiten teeth.  The most popular method is using a home teeth whitening system that will whiten teeth dramatically.  Since teeth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate the replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc.  Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.

Teeth whitening is not permanent.  A touch-up may be needed every several years, and more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine.

Teeth whitening enhances the brightness of natural teeth, but it’s not for everyone. To be safe, Dr. Christine Chin will thoroughly discuss in detail with you all details before any action is taken, especially if you have:

  • Discolored or sensitive teeth
  • White spots or decay on your teeth
  • Infected gums
  • A bridge, crown, or other dental work (especially involving front teeth)

Dr. Chin has found that custom made take-home whitening trays with dentist dispensed whitening agent is the most effective way to safely bleach your teeth.  Rev Professional Tooth Whitening is Dr. Chin’s whitener of choice.  It is a once a day application for 15 minutes followed by a finishing rinse to enhance the whitening effect of the gel and reduction of sensitivity.  Dr. Chin has found that better results are achieved with these custom made take-home trays than in-office whitening treatments and Over the Counter whiteners.
